WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM’ AT COMSTOCK PREMIER LODGE—

The Comstock Premier Lodge and Copper Bison Tasting Room just might be the best kept secret throughout the lower Sand Hills region of Nebraska. It’s nestled comfortably amongst the rolling hills, patches of cedar woodland, and sweeping vistas between the Village of Comstock and the small town of Sargent.

In 2009, the Comstock Premier Lodge was purchased by Mitch and Roxanne Huggins, formerly of Billings, Montana. The Huggins, along with their daughter Danielle, worked in the health care industry with Roxanne serving as a National Leader, Mitch as a Regional Leader, and Danielle as a Division Leader respectively. The couple has four children, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

So, when the Lodge came up for sale, “we decided it would be a fun change,” Roxanne explained, “And here we are 16 years later.” The previous owners weren’t raising their own bison and elk. “So, we decided raise them here,” Mitch added. It took their multi-faceted business to the next level. They wanted to open the Lodge to the public rather than operate as a private club. Today, guests can hunt bison, elk, turkey, deer, occasional exotics, and predators on the 400 acres surrounding the Lodge. Turkey and deer require state permits but bison and elk do not require state licensing.

The bison hunts are unique to the area and come as an all-inclusive package deal that covers lodging, meals and other considerations. The package price of $4,900 is for one hunter but they invite your entire family to join in one the hunt or enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the Lodge. There is also hiking, bison tours, bird watching, and it’s a Dark Sky destination for star-gazing.

For an additional fee, a professional butcher is on hand if you prefer the meat vacuum packed and flash frozen. Wild Prairie Bison of Sargent processes the meat.

But that’s not all….the lower level of the Lodge houses a Gift Shop fully stocked with our amazing range of creative products, as well as the Copper Bison Tasting Room which features an extensive collection of superior wines from ten different Nebraska wineries, in addition to an impressive selection of bourbons, beer and other spirits.

Visitors can book rooms at the Lodge as needed and it’s also available for business conferences, corporate seminars, workshops, weddings, family reunions, private retreats, graduations and receptions. The Lodge itself sleeps 30 people. During the days of the Comstock Windmill Festival, performers such as Ted Nugent, Neal McCoy, Clay Walker and the band Emerson Drive stayed at the Lodge.

“We put in long days, especially on hunt days,” remarked both Mitch and Rozanne. “The two of us thoroughly enjoy the hunting aspect of the business,” she added, as well as the historical significance of long-time elk hunting at the Lodge. Mitch manages the herd, as well as haying and baling alfalfa, including a special grassland mix for the bison. “We’re very self-contained here,” he commented.

The single most frequently heard comment from visitors to the Comstock Premier Lodge is “they wish they’d stayed one more day”. Come Check us out and plan on making a trip this year! You won’t be sorry! https://www.comstocklodge.com/
