Welcome!

We welcome you and your family to Whitewood Resort. The comfort and happiness of our guests is our main interest. We are located 120 miles north of the Twin Cities on highway 169 to Aitkin County Road 28, 2 miles east. The trip to Whitewood includes 20 miles of scenic highway along Mille Lacs Lake.

You will find friendly hospitality and fun for the whole family at Whitewood Resort. We are located on the south side of Spirit Lake, 11 miles north of Garrison, and 7 miles south of Aitkin. We are in a wooded location with lots of birch and giant pines. We are away from traffic, and you will find great places for quiet relaxation.

Spirit Lake

Spirit Lake is crystal clear and spring-fed lake which stays clear and clean all year aound. We have an excellent marked swimming beach, with a gradual depth and a sandy bottom. Dock space is available for each cabin for one boat. A fishing boat is available with cabin rental at no additional cost, and we have fishing motors for rent. Lake front fully-modern cabins (great views of Spirit Lake!) include: baths with showers, bedding, fully equipped kitchens including microwave ovens, coffee pots, dishes, pots, and pans. Please bring your own bath and dish towels. WE DO NOT ALLOW PETS.

Great Fishing

Spirit Lake is part of the Ripple River Chain, with abundant protection from high winds and rough water. Large mouth bass fishing is at its best in June, but continues into late August. Spirit Lake is a top fishing lake for all varieties of pan and game fish, including northern pike and walleyes. Whitewood Resort opens for the fishing opener and closes September 30. We have boats and motors, including a pontoon, for rent. Our guests can use our swimming beach, horseshoe court, volleyball court, Hydro-Bikes, kayaks, and swingsets at no additional cost.

There are many lakes in our area for those who like to explore other waters. Most lakes have a public access so you can launch your boat. We are located on The Ripple River Chain of lakes so, if you care to take a canoe trip to other lakes, you can use Whitewood Resort as a starting base. Be sure to check our Cabins page for rates and availability. Specific dates are now posted. We can be reached during the winter months by voice mail or by email. Please use email info@whitewoodresort.com for a quick reply.

Welcome!

It's not quite white, not quite cold, not quite winter, but a good nap conjuring up sunshine and fishing definitely makes up for any perceived deficiencies in the weather! This is a busy time of year for planning and organizing supplies, seeing family and relaxing.

Dreaming about fishing, kayaking, canoeing? It's all good! We are a pretty quiet "retro" kind of place where sitting in the shade for the afternoon enjoying a book, or floating on the water enjoying a cool lemonade is a pretty common site.

The cabins page has the updated available bookings for 2024, and you can always give us a call for further clarification, or if you just prefer to talk to someone! (But please call between 10am and 8pm!)

Come see us this summer! We have fantastic sunsets and that leads to delicious s'mores at the campfire. The occasional rain shower reminds us to relax with family and friends, play a game or take a nap before heading out for the next great adventure. There are many weekend activities around the area, art galleries, biking and hiking- and a summer favorite- reading in the still morning peace with the birds chirping, the loons swimming by and the eagle flying overhead.  Relaxing at the lake is the perfect activity.
Take time to walk, kayak on the lake, and bird watch. Aitkin county is one of the best places in the world to see a wide variety of birds! Just being outside and "unplugged" for a few hours will rejuvenate your spirit.

What do you get for a family that has everything? Time together for a vacation at the lake! Check out our cabins and let us know if we can help you plan your next family vacation, fishing trip, or lake-side getaway. With our trees for shade and a nice breeze from the lake, this is a great place to be when the weather gets warm! Our lake is spring fed, clear, and clean--come enjoy a cool swim at the lake.

Whether you are looking for a spot to fish for opening weekend, a girl's weekend retreat, some quilting time, or just relaxation, we would love to see you! We have wonderful bird watching with the loons, eagles, and songbirds, and the wild flowers in May and June are delightful. Bring your camera! The sunsets are spectacular too! We will book for weekends or short stays in the spring and fall. Want to avoid weekend traffic? Come see us for a weekday stay. During the main part of the summer we book from Saturday to Saturday. Have questions? Feel free to call or email. We always enjoy a friendly conversation.
